The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper reported, citing Egyptian officials, that a new proposal has been delivered to Israel and Hamas by mediator countries, calling for a ceasefire lasting four months and the release of all Israeli prisoners.
According to the new proposal presented to the parties, it is stated that a six-week hiatus in the conflict is envisaged initially for the release of Israeli prisoners, including children, women, and the elderly, who are in urgent need of medical intervention. In return, Israel is requested to release a significant number of Palestinian prisoners and increase humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The report also stated that in the next stage of the proposal, it is suggested that Hamas releases Israeli female soldier prisoners, followed by male soldier prisoners, and hands over the bodies of those who died in Gaza to Israel.
The news highlighted that the new proposal includes guarantees for Hamas to receive international assurances, including from the United States. It also mentioned that a comprehensive agreement could be reached that would finally put an end to the attacks on Gaza that have been ongoing since October 7 during the ceasefire.
The new proposal, which includes a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire, was reported to have come before the meetings that CIA Director William J. Burns will have in Paris this weekend with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as well as intelligence officials from Egypt and Israel.
In the US media, it was claimed that US President Joe Biden would send CIA Director Burns to hold talks on a ceasefire and a large-scale prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel.
