Beşir Ayanoğlu, who served as the Mayor of Mardin from 2009 to 2014 under the AKP (Justice and Development Party) and applied for the AKP candidacy for the Mayor of Artuklu in the local elections on March 31st, has resigned from his party. Following the announcement of Mehmet Tatlıdede as the AKP candidate for the Mayor of Artuklu, Ayanoğlu stated, “I have observed that someone who does not know or understand the region’s sociology and who does not have the support of our fellow citizens is making decisions without any consideration.”
Shayhmus Nasıroğlu included the following statement in his resignation letter sent to the AKP District Presidency in Midyat, “I am resigning from my membership in the AK Party in Midyat due to the necessity I have seen.”
Ayanoğlu explained his reason for resigning as follows: “I applied as a candidate for the Mayor of Artuklu under the AK Party for the local elections on March 30, 2024. I received great support both from the party organization and our fellow citizens. However, I have observed that someone who does not know or understand the sociology of the Mardin Artuklu region and who does not have the support of our fellow citizens is making decisions without any consideration in the provincial organization. I have come to the conclusion that this is not how politics should be. Therefore, I have withdrawn my candidacy for the Mayor of Artuklu under the AK Party. The well-being of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is always important to us. I would like to thank all my brothers and fellow citizens who supported me.”
