
Tarık Y., previously convicted of ‘intentional injury’, confessed to killing his ex-wife Özlem Şımarık by shooting her in their apartment in Burdur Çavdır. The 45-year-old attacker claimed that despite their divorce, he harbored jealousy towards Özlem, stating, “I did not want the mother of my children to work in places serving alcohol.”
The tragedy unfolded when Tarık Y. confronted Özlem Şımarık in their apartment building on the Çavdır-Antalya highway. After a heated argument, Tarık Y. fired a shotgun, leaving Şımarık severely wounded. Şımarık was rushed to Çavdır State Hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The assailant attempted to flee but was apprehended in Denizli Çameli.
During his initial statement to the Gölhisar District Police Department, Tarık Y. revealed his discomfort with Özlem working in establishments serving alcohol. He admitted to occasional disputes due to his jealousy. He claimed that he visited his ex-wife on the day of the incident to discuss this issue. Tarık Y. said, “Despite being separated, I did not want the mother of my children to work in places serving alcohol.” This disagreement escalated into a fatal conflict.
Unable to control his anger during the argument, Tarık Y. confessed to retrieving a hunting rifle from his vehicle and shooting Özlem Şımarık, resulting in her death. The shocking revelation of the motive behind the crime adds an even more tragic layer to an already devastating incident.
While Tarık Y. remains in custody, five individuals suspected of aiding his escape are being tracked by the police. The investigation continues, shedding light on the circumstances that led to this senseless act of violence.
