PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s physical freedom and the resolution of the Kurdish issue, the “Great Freedom March” which was initiated from two fronts, continues on its third day. The marchers from the Kars (Qers) branch have reached the district of Taşlıçay (Avkevir) in Ağrı (Agirî). The marchers were welcomed with great enthusiasm and applause in the district, where they made a statement.
Speaking on behalf of the marchers, DEM Party Amed Deputy Adalet Kaya provided information about the campaign and expressed their determination. Kaya reminded of the long-standing policies of oppression towards democratic politics and said, “As we move away from democratic values, violence spreads to every aspect of our lives. We are facing an increasingly deepening economic crisis. This crisis affects Kurds the most. We are facing poverty that reaches levels of destitution. Today, young people in Agirî are forced to migrate to different countries. We are marching also for the future of our children.”
“LIVING AGAINST WAR”
Kaya reminded that there has been no news from PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan for over 35 months and said, “The physical freedom of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan is our top priority. There is no other way to solve the Kurdish problem other than through democratic means. Every day, women and children are being killed in this country. The crimes committed by village guards, police, and soldiers in Kurdistan are being covered up. These are the consequences of war policies. We reject the government that sanctifies war. We defend life against death. A meeting with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan should be held as soon as possible for the end of the war.”
“THE GATHERING TURNED INTO A CELEBRATION”
The statement concluded with slogans such as “Freedom for Ramanê Îmralı” and “Long live the resistance of the prisons.” Afterwards, the crowd gathered with the people at a venue near the party’s district office and exchanged views on the march. The public meeting turned into a celebration with Kurdish marches and songs being performed.
The marchers then set off towards the city center of Agirî. The march, which will enter its fourth day tomorrow, will continue in the Panos district afterwards.
